More than approximately 30% of global methane emissions originate from inland water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and ponds, covering about 3 to 4% of the Earth's land surface. These emissions are primarily caused by sediments in these water bodies.
Our main focus lies in the revitalization of urban waterways through the removal of sediments, the recycling of separated materials, and subsequently, the implementation of long-term self-cleaning systems. These self-cleaning systems include oxygen supply as well as aquatic and terrestrial phytoremediation. For over 10 years, we have been conducting such sediment removal projects with our own equipment in Europe and Asia.
Large-scale projects of this nature are costly for Municipal administrations. Our new innovative approach aims to calculate the greenhouse gas emission (GHG emission) potentials of these urban water bodies to generate carbon credits. By monetizing these carbon credits and through the recycling and sale of separated and dewatered sediments, the costs of revitalizing urban waterways could be massively reduced. These incentives for Municipal administrations represent a turning point in the revitalization of urban water bodies.
The innovative uwt.swiss mobile Desludging System is ideally suited for cleaning and desludging canals and waterways in densely populated urban areas.
The system can also be used in treating industrial sludge, e.g. mining and steel industries, preventing the waterways from being polluted.
The uwt.swiss system consists of a Separation Unit, a Sedimentation Unit, a Dewatering Unit and a Control & Polymer Unit incorporated in four 20’ standard sized shipping containers.
The system separates and dewaters:
- Trash and coarse material
- Sand, ready to use in construction industry
- Sludge, 75% dry, ready to use for landfill
- Our Automated Intelligence Control System, AICS is configured for the optimal operational settings, so electricity and polymer use is minimal
- Quick installation and minimal space required.
- Very high throughput (150m³/h).
- Sensors monitor that only clear water will be returned to the waterways
- Operating costs are much lower compared to conventional technologies such as digging with excavator

Four integrated 20’ containers, relatively easily located to where it is required, and with a footprint of just 150m², and using pipes that can be extended. Our own proprietary Control System is used to monitor all events, with optimal settings for flow rates, process water and polymer usage, and with minimal operator input.
